Weekend road closures: June 2022 – update

As part of the preparation work for the new carriageways at the junction, there is a need to install drainage on the A249.

In order to do this safely,  there will need to be a closure of the A249 southbound carriageway, from the Bobbing roundabout to north of the Stockbury roundabout.

There’s never a good time to close a busy road like the A249, so the site team will be working to reduce the amount of time the road is fully closed.

This work will now be carried out using a mix of lane closures and full closures starting on 10 June, running for three weekends.

The first two weekends will start with a lane closure on Friday evening, before we fully close the road on Saturday morning:

    Date

    Closure

    Diversion

    8pm 10 June to 6am 11 June

Lane closure on the southbound A249 between the Bobbing and the Stockbury roundabouts.

    6am 11 June to 5am 13 June

Closure of the southbound A249 between the Bobbing and the Stockbury roundabouts.

For drivers wanting to head south (towards Maidstone) from the Bobbing roundabout, there will be a diversion in place via Sheppey Way, Chestnut Street and Maidstone Road. This will bring you the Stockbury roundabout, where you can continue your journey.

    8pm 17 June to 6am 18 June

Lane closure on the southbound A249 between the Bobbing and the Stockbury roundabouts.

    6am 18 June to 5am 20 June

Closure of the southbound A249 between the Bobbing and the Stockbury roundabouts.

For drivers wanting to head south (towards Maidstone) from the Bobbing roundabout, there will be a diversion in place via Sheppey Way, Chestnut Street and Maidstone Road. This will bring you the Stockbury roundabout, where you can continue your journey.

For the third weekend, we’ll be working under lane closures on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, with full closures during the day:
