We love local businesses, for us the vibrancy & community spirit that resonate from these establishments play an important role in defining the local neighbourhood. Born out of a desire to celebrate our own favourite local businesses My Facade was started by artist Ryan Leedham whilst living in South East London.
Something that began as a part time project has since developed into a small business, Ryan says "the project has combined a love of Architecture, passion for drawing and a professional career designing shops". From its conception in South East London My Facade is now based in the historic market town of Faversham where Ryan and his family now live. Ryan has continued the project whilst based in Kent and has recently completed a first series of Faversham artworks including Macknade, Grain & Hearth, Faversham Guildhall & One Gatefield.
The illustrations aim to bring into focus and hero the facades of these much loved community hubs, quite often nestled amongst the urban sprawl of the City and out of sight. MyFacades collections so far include a selection of pubs, cafes, fast food establishments and local delicatessens. At high level the drawings share similar architectural details that are prevalent on London's Victorian high streets, however each drawing becomes unique at street level where they adopt their own personality through branding, awning colours and product displays. These artworks mark the beginning of a new chapter for My Facade as Ryan plans more artworks of local Faversham businesses and those located in nearby neighbouring towns. Faversham has a rich history and a tapestry of architectural styles dating back to the Medieval Ages and offers a fantastic canvas to work from, not to mention the abundance of fantastic independent businesses in the town, explains Ryan.
In addition to their collection of local area prints My Facade also enjoys working on private commissions with local residents & business owners. They have worked on a range of commissions from house portraits to brand illustrations so get in touch if you would like to discuss a private commission: hello@myfacade.co.uk
All artworks are printed onto 310 GSM Hahnemühle German Etching paper. This is a heavyweight Giclée art printing paper that has a slightly warm base tone and a strong mottled texture. It creates a print with strong colours and deep blacks that feel rich and high in contrast. With its weight and strong texture this paper gives My Facade's artwork a handmade crafted feel.
